Bacon’s Castle was originally home to a prosperous planter, Arthur Allen, and his family. Following Allen’s death, the house was inherited by his son, Major Arthur Allen II. A loyalist supporter of the colonial government and member of the House of Burgesses, Major Allen was driven from his house in 1676 by followers of the patriot rebel Nathaniel Bacon, whose uprising later came to be known as Bacon’s Rebellion. The episode later gave Bacon’s Castle its name though the house remained in the Allen family until 1844. Source
As a real estate photographer in the Richmond Central Virginia area I get to photograph some amazing spaces. And then sometimes, just for fun, I'll photograph some of the many historical homes we have in Virginia. Homes in the historic Richmond area are always a treat to photograph. Jackson Ward, Monroe Ward, Church Hill The Fan area in general have many homes that I have photographed that predate the Civil War. But, Bacon's Castle dates back to 1665 before we were a nation. The craftsmanship of these spaces are breathtaking and all completed by hand. Built in 1665, it is noted as an extremely rare example of Jacobean architecture in the New World.

History
Preservation Virginia acquired Bacon’s Castle in the 1970s. After extensive research and restoration, the house was opened to the public in 1983.
